Reading the classics

Taking your time to read a book is something that most of the time is essential. Moreover when you are reading classics,in my opinion. Many people can get them either being boring or life-changing and from my point of view it's just because you are reading what you like or what you don't.I have realised myself that some of the ones I've read  are very easy to understand in comparison to others, even those whom I was told I wasn't going to enjoy. You can't say you haven't been tempted to read a very famous old book just by
hearing someone say how great it is and when it came to the conclusion:it ain't going to be on your top. Now,I'm not trying by any means to tell you how to read(in which environment or anything like that) or what to read but some classics are very highly regarded because of something,be it interesting or not for anyone in part, like the originality of the action or how accurate they describe what happens in life itself.
Considering how often I visit a bookstore I came up with some rules for myself that would stop me from buying/reading books that I've heard about but in the end I know I'm never going to read or get sucked up into something that I would make myself to like just for the sake of finishing a book with good reviews and a pretty cover. Then they also reflect on when I read and where, talking about the classics. I take them into consideration.
  • Find what you like-meaning that if I'm going to search or find a book to read I'm going to make sure it is something that I would enjoy reading at least for the big part. When I say big part I refer to the ones I loved up to some point but then never got to finish them because the essence just wasn't my type.Maybe it's the city or maybe it's when the action takes place.
  • Read a little bit from it-I always read the first page of the book after the description and if that doesn't convince me I just open up at a random page and see if there's that something about the book.
  • Take your time-I know that some of the classics that I read I could not as quickly as I would have expected or wanted to.I needed more concentration and to fully enjoy that book,no rush. When I read a classic I rarely do it in very loud places where I can get distracted-We all know about that word that pops on to the page and you don't have any idea what that means-either you place it in the context or find that googled-I do that most of the time.Taking my time also means deciding if I want to read that book or not-I may not get it the first time I see it on the shelf.
  • Know how to do it-The most efficient way of reading my favorite classics has been with a cup of tea and probably lounging on a very comfortable chair.Or even in a very quiet place outside.
  •  It's not the end if you don't like it-Just take a break and come back to it-that's what I tell myself when it happens. It may be just too much attention and concentration that it requires that you're not in the mood or state to give.
It's not the easiest to enjoy a classic but it's not impossible.
Do you like reading classics?
